What is Homestay?

Home Tuition combines intensive language training with living in the home of your personal tutor. It is a total immersion course in which your language skills develop quickly and naturally.

We offer courses for people wanting to learn or improve their English, or German.  You will speak only the  target language all day, every day and learn much faster than in a traditional language school.

Do you teach in a class, or is it always one-to-one?

In one-to-one lessons you learn the essential skills, knowledge and language that you need. Outside lessons there are many opportunities for you to practise and refine your language learning – over breakfast, lunch and dinner, during tea and coffee breaks, and when doing activities each week with us or our family and friends.

We do not teach in classes, but we can sometimes offer places for 2 students at a time – providing they are at the same language level.

Are the courses open to anyone?

Yes and No.  We currently do not usually take anyone under the age of 16 years old.   Provided you are over 16, then we are happy to take students of any language ability (beginner to advanced).

Students under 16 are welcome however, if they are accompanied by a member of their family.   Prices on application.

Are the lessons tailor-made?

Yes, they are largely designed to fit around you and your needs.   We normally assess your level of English beforehand, and ask you to outline your language learning needs, and goals.  We have a great deal of resources and the experience to put together a course that help you reach your goals.

How many hours teaching will I get?

We can offer you a choice of 15 to 20 hours per week in the classroom.  These are usually planned Monday to Friday, because you will have weekends free.  So you should consider how long you want to spend in the classroom in a more formal teaching environment.  The teaching can be a mixture of classroom (formal) and more informal teaching on excursions, tours, and activity-based training.  We can discuss what’s best for you when you get in touch.  Whatever you choose, remember that you will be immersed in English (or German) all the time you spend with us in our other day-to-day activities (e.g. cooking / shopping etc), as well as any tourist excursions we choose to do together.

How much does it cost?

This depends mainly on the time of year and how many hours you choose.  You can also choose full-board accommodation (all meals included), or half-board (just breakfast & lunch).

As a guide, our 15 hour courses start from just £1600 for two weeks (£850 for one week).   We will do discounts when taking 2 students at a time.

Can I come for a shorter period?

This is usually possible.  Minimum stay would be 4 nights (with 3 days teaching).  Price on application.

Can I bring a friend or family member to stay with me, but who will not be learning a language?

Absolutely, providing we have got a room spare.

Can I pay in Euros?

Yes, you can make a bank transfer in Euros or Pounds.  When paying in euros we will give you a conversion amount at the time of payment.
